Chapter Profile & History

The first organizational meeting to form a BIG chapter in the Huntsville area was held on July 25, 1989 through the efforts of Mary Peoples, an Equal Employment Manager at the U.S. Army Space & Missile Defense Command/Army Forces Strategic Command (formerly called the U.S. Army Strategic Defense Command).

BIG History

Blacks In Government®(BIG) was established in 1975 and incorporated in 1976 by a small group of African Americans at the Public Health Services which is a part of the Department of Health, Education and Welfare in the Parklawn building in Rockville, Maryland.

Membership

Any employee or retiree of the Federal, State or Local government who is in accord with the principles, policies, and objectives of the organization may join. Regular members shall be given all privileges of membership, except being national delegates unless they are also chapter/regional members.
